Post-doctoral researcher (f/m) – Full Time (40 hours/week), Limited for 1-3 years
Starting date: flexible but should not be later than the 1st of September 2018 

Research in the Psychology Department at Webster Vienna focuses on Applied Cognitive and Affective Sciences and aims at understanding cognitive and emotional processes involved in decision making and social interactions. Our research facilities include physiological recording devices (ECG, GSR, EMG, EEG, etc.) and various stimuli presentation software, as well as an observation laboratory for behavior measurement and analysis.

Key responsibilities

Within the remit of a joint project funded by the French ANR and the Austrian FWF, the Psychology Department at Webster Vienna Private University is currently recruiting a post-doctoral researcher to work on nonverbal indicators of attitudes, prejudice, and discrimination (the requirements for the position are described below). More specifically, we will investigate subtle or implicit harassment in everyday interactions, a form of unfavorable treatment aimed at producing feelings of inferiority in out-group members. The project involves a mixture of ethological field studies and psychological experiments conducted in parallel in Paris and Vienna. The candidate should be at ease with handling data collection and analysis at multiple levels: observational (nonverbal behavior), cognitive (social decision making), and physiological (peripheral measures). The project involves regular exchanges between Webster Vienna Private University (WVPU) and the Center for Studies in Migration and Interethnic Relations (URMIS) in Paris, and possibly other European sites like Berlin and Brussels.

Your Profile

Required

• A completed PhD degree in any of the following fields: social psychology, evolutionary psychology, ethology, primatology, anthropology, sociology.
• Experience with nonverbal behavioral data collection in the field and in the laboratory.
• Experience with the collection, processing, and analysis of peripheral physiological data.
• Experience with the design and programming of psychological experiments.
• Fluency in English and German.
• Fluency with statistical packages (SPSS, R, JASP, ...)
• Documented ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer-reviewed international journals.

Beneficial

• Experience with behavioral annotation softwares (e.g. Anvil, Elan, Observer XT).
• FACS certification or willingness to become a certified FACS coder.
• Positive attitude towards field research and willingness to work in an international environment.

The applicant must have the legal right to work in Austria. The salary for the position is based on the guidelines provided by the FWF for the remuneration of researchers (full‐time basis, 40 hours/week, All‐In, € 50.772,40 gross p.a.).
